Loan Policy

(May 2013)

Approved by Krum Library Advisory Board, May 21, 2013

Approved by Krum City Council June 3, 2013

Krum Public Library cards may be used at all the libraries in the North Texas Library Consortium (NTLC). Any patrons having cards in good standing at any NTLC library are eligible to check out items at the Krum Public Library. Any resident over the age of 16 is eligible to obtain a library card with picture identification and a document showing current Texas residency. Persons under 16 may have their own card provided that a parent/guardian has a library card and is willing to be responsible for items checked out by the underage person. Parents/legal guardians are financially responsible for any lost or damaged materials checked out by their children under the age of 16.

All Krum Public Library items may be checked out for two weeks, with four renewals.  Items may be checked out for a different time period at the Library Director’s discretion. Items from other libraries, either in the North Texas Library Consortium or from elsewhere may have different checkout periods.

Krum Public Library is not only a member of the North Texas Library Consortium, which allows patrons to check out items from any of the libraries in the Consortium, but also participates in the state interlibrary loan program. Patrons in good standing (have been a patron for at least one year and have no outstanding fines) may request materials from other libraries. There is no guarantee that the items will be available for loaning.  Fees and fines for overdue, lost or damaged items will vary according to the lending library and are the responsibility of the patron.

As part of the state interlibrary loan program, Krum Public Library also lends books to libraries outside the Consortium.  The decision to as to which items may be loaned out is at the discretion of the Library Director.  Historical materials will not be loaned out. Any items that are lost or damaged will be assessed a fee equal to the replacement cost plus a processing fee. When items are loaned from one non-consortium  library to another, the borrowing library is responsible for paying any fees for damage or loss to the loaning library.
