Overdue Policy
Overdue Policy
(Revised Fall 2007)
Patrons with overdue items will be first contacted by phone shortly after their items are overdue. If items are not turned in within two weeks, they will be contacted by letter stating how much the fine is to date. If the items are still not returned within a reasonable amount of time, a certified letter will be sent, stating not only the amount of the fine but replacement cost of the items.
At this point the patron's library privileges will be revoked and not re-instated until the items are returned and the fine paid, or the replacement cost has been paid. If the librarian feels it is necessary, other local libraries will be informed as to the status of this patron.
If the patron's phone number is found to be disconnected, no longer in service or in any other way incorrect, a letter will be sent immediately.
When the first letter is sent a message will be set up on InfoCentre stating that the patron has overdues that need to be dealt with.
Certified letters will only be sent on items that are at least four weeks overdue (with the exception of patrons without phone numbers). When a certified letter is sent a message will be sent to InfoCentre blocking that patron from checking out items until the problem is solved.
