Mason’s Musings September 15th, 2023
Next week is the official start of fall. Following the autumnal equinox we should all be experiencing the sweet, sweet relief of 80° and lower. The coming of fall brings change, not only in the leaves and temperature but also here at the library.
The Friends of the Library has a new president–Stacey Luthy–a long time library patron and substitute teacher for the Krum School District. She has really embraced the role and we are so happy to have her help with making our library the best it can be. We are currently working on an application for those who wish to be a part of the Friends of the Library, but for those who don’t know what the Friends do here’s a little more information.
The Friends, simply put, are a group of volunteers the library knows they can call on for any events that require some extra hands. The Friends have various fundraisers such as the Halloween carnival and the Harry Potter Yule Ball. All money raised by the Friends goes to help the library. Examples include; new kids computer chairs, the flowerbed, prizes for the Summer Reading Program, DVD’s, and graphic novels.
Being a part of the Friends isn’t like other organizations. It requires no fees and no monthly meetings (unless it’s to help plan for events). If you are interested in joining or have any other questions regarding the Friends of the library feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The friends have helped the library so much over the years and we are extremely grateful to both old and new members. Some of our events and programs wouldn’t be possible without the help of the friends. It’s a wonder what just a couple of extra hands can do! I hope you all have a great weekend and start getting out those fall clothes from storage!
