Staff Pick - Cynthia

I recommend The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch. As an educator and a grandmother, I love how this author takes a typical princess-prince-dragon story and weaves a humorous tale for modern readers and listeners. The three main characters (Elizabeth, Ronald, and the dragon) are the most fascinating I've ever encountered in literature...and certainly the most unexpected. Elizabeth is spunky and sassy, rather than prim and oh-so-proper, and the dragon is so full of himself that Elizabeth can easily outsmart him. And then there's Prince Ronald - well, don't let me spoil the book for you, just read it and tell me what YOU think. Krum Public Library currently has this picture book in Spanish, and the English version can be reserved through the Consortium.
