December 2021 Volume 3, Issue 3

Director's Corner It is hard to believe we have made it to the last month of this year! Our December calendar will be full of holiday activities, such as the Christmas Tree Lighting, Harry Potter Yule Party, and Drop-in Holiday Crafting. We will also have a few holiday closures this month, so be sure to check the calendar for details. I wish each of our wonderful patrons a joyous holiday season full of light, hope, and love.

Library December Early Closures: • Friday 12/10 at noon • Thursday 12/23 at 2:00 • Friday 12/31 at 5:00 PM • KPL will be closed on December 24-27 for Christmas and January 1, 2022 for New Years Day.

Did You Know?

  • December is Read a New Book Month. We have lots of new books to choose from!

  • December 13 is National Violin Day and National Day of the Horse. Perhaps celebrate by reading one of our many books about horses while listening to your favorite violin music.

Remember When? (A look back at important events in literary history—author birthdays, book/character debuts, and dates in books)

  • 12/6/1953 Vladimir Nabokov finishes writing Lolita.

  • 12/7/1902 Thomas Nast, father of the American Cartoon, dies.

  • 12/14/1916 Shirley Jackson, author of The Lottery, is born.

Staff Pick from Jamie

I recommend Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli (published in 2000). This is a great YA fiction book about embracing the uniqueness that is you. The main characters face the typical challenges of middle and high school, as well as moving to a new school. Along the way, they learn about the impact we all have on others as we come into our own selves.
