I recommend The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson. Not only was this a good story, but I learned a lot. I learned about the strength of the Dakhóta women, who passed seeds down to their daughters in order to have food for the next generation. I learned how farming practices changed with the introduction of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, along with the practice of selling exclusive rights to GMO seeds – and how that could impact farmers, along with the land and rivers. But with all of that knowledge it was still a wonderful book about finding out who your family is, where you come from and how to reconnect with your roots.
