Mason’s Musings February 4th, 2023

Books of love,

books of flowers,

books exemplifying black power.

All this and more we have in store for you our patrons who we just adore.

February is in full swing and with it comes a whirlwind of pastel hearts and confessions in moonlit parks. But enough with the sappy poetry – let’s get on with what you came to see! This week will be our first transitional week with our new software system, Apollo. We hope that everything is going as smoothly as it can for everyone while we adjust to the changes. Be aware that frequent users of our hold/transit list may have some difficulties with placing holds as the new system gets rolling. This should only last for the first couple of weeks.

Some may notice that a particular event that we held last year is missing. Unfortunately, there will be no “Blind Date with a Book” this February to help avoid any confusion with Apollo and its cataloging system. Fortunately for me I won’t have to subject our patrons to my horrible wrapping skills again. However, February isn’t just a month of love it is also a month of remembrance and respect for all that the black community has had to overcome. Their courage, their tenacity, and their desire to be seen and heard. Be sure to check out our Black History Month display to learn more about all they had to endure. One more reminder that:

***Any holds placed on materials from other libraries in the consortium may not be available for up to a month due to the system transition the consortium is undergoing. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please bear with us through these changes***

Now with the introduction out of the way let’s get on to this week’s schedule!

Upcoming Special Events:

Tuesday February 14th Get in the Valentine’s Day mood with “An Evening of Music”, a special performance by Sean Gaskell and his 21-stringed African harp! The performance will start at 6:30 PM. Sean will perform traditional harp songs of the West African tribes. Refreshments will be offered at this FREE event.

February is turning out to be a very hectic month for us, but we won’t let that get in the way of serving our patrons the same way we always have! While there will be some technical hiccups along the way for everyone involved with the Apollo transition, rest assured that everything will smooth itself out in due time. We hope this February is full of laughs and love and warm snuggly hugs for all our patrons.
