Mason’s Musings May 5th, 2023

Welcome to May everyone and happy Cinco De Mayo! I can’t believe it’s already May. Time sure does fly when you’re preparing for the awesome Summer Reading Program. We’re only one month away from unveiling this year’s events and prizes to you all and we’re all so excited.

May is mental health awareness month and will be the theme for our rotating display. We hope the books that are selected help to shed light on all the different disorders and illnesses that plague the mind. To help us all become more understanding of those who struggle with them.

May is also Better Sleep month, something I believe each and everyone of us can benefit from. I don’t think we realize how important sleep really is for our bodies, that is until the next day when you’re dead tired at work and can barely see your computer screen! There are several tips and tricks to help create a better sleeping environment for yourself. For example, consider investing in blackout curtains, turning the air conditioning down to a cool 68-69, wearing an eye mask or earplugs. My personal favorite way to wind down for bed is listening to ASMR, which for those who don’t know stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. Basically, it involves different sounds and soft-spoken dialogue which are called “triggers” that are meant to send satisfying tingling sensations to the brain, to help it unwind.

I hope these tips help to promote better sleep habits in your own lives! Because without sleep we’re no better than zombies shambling around envious of the living (AKA those who got at least eight hours of sleep!) Wishing you all a fantastic weekend and once again have a Happy Cinco De Mayo!
